Shifting

Part of Lemon Bomber

As noted early on, the shifter clamp was broken. On top of that, the shift shaft itself was slightly bent, and the splines were in rough shape. I went ahead and welded the shifter—mostly for practice—but it actually turned out well enough that it would likely hold up in use. That said, I was able to source a replacement shift shaft, and given the condition of the original splines, I’d rather not reuse the old shifter anyway. Between the worn splines and the bend in the shaft, it’s just not worth compromising the feel or reliability of the setup. If the shaft hadn’t been bent, I probably could have shimmed the connection and made it work just fine—but in this case, replacement is the better long-term solution.

Camera kept refocusing on me… I’ll do better later. But the shifter shaft is ever so slightly bent and splines are stripped.
